Obituary for Truman Lamar Canon

Truman Lamar  Canon
Colonel Truman Lamar Canon USAF RET., 90 years old, died peacefully in his Sacramento home with his family at his bedside on June 11, 2017. Col. Canon was born on October 6, 1926 in Palatka, FL. to his parents, Truman and Jael Canon.

He served 30 years in the Air Force and was assigned to Yokota AFB, Japan for 5 years. He served as Communication Electronics Director and also served as Navigator General where he served as Transport Navigator. He was commissioned to Colonel at Wright Patterson AFB, OH in 1974. He was discharged with full honors in 1976 while serving at Richards-Gebaur AFB, MO.

Col. Canon is survived by his wife of 45 years, Earlene Rogers Canon; daughter, Patricia Canon Zimmerman; sons, Dennis Rogers (Suzanne) and Mike Rogers (Cheryl). He is also survived by grandchildren Sarah Rogers Nixon, Jennifer Rogers Holsey (Chris) (their mother Janet), Matthew Zimmerman and Tina Zimmerman (their father, Tom) and 4 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles Canon (Ellie) of AZ and Aubry Canon (Trish) of FL. and numerous nieces and nephews plus a special cousin Hazel Strange of FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents Truman and Jael Canon; son, Dr. Michael Canon VMD; sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Joe Bishop and sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Doc Dixon.

A funeral service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Sierra View Mortuary, 4900 Olive Avenue, Olivehurst, CA; followed by a 21 gun salute at grave site (same grounds). Celebration of life will be held immediately afterward at his residence, Sacramento, CA. If desired donations will be welcomed at UC Davis Cancer Center.
